Dear Readers, My neighbors informed me this week that they’ve stopped watering and are done with their garden for the year. These good friends are old hands at gardening, as they’ve had one every summer for the many years they’ve lived about a mile up the road. The breadth of experience and knowledge they’ve gathered about growing all sorts of flowers, fruit trees, berry brambles and vegetables on their land, is evidenced in their property’s lush beauty and bountiful harvest. Two events each August signal they are nearing the moment they’ll decide to abandon whatthey’ve grown.
