Remember back in 2021 when temperatures went crazy and Texas residents got hit with outrageous utility bills? Thanks to our own City of Ottawa “electric production and power plant”, we saved “over $2 million”.
Working to maintain our 6 generating stations (3 large & 3 small) are, left to right-Pat, Dave, Brian, John, Rocky, Mark, Blake and Brian (not pictured are Gabe & Leon).
Starting in 1906 with one building, the original plant, on West 2nd Street, used to provide water & power, that was until the 1951 flood (in one picture you can see Dave pointing to the water mark showing how high the water was). Prior to that, the building was used as a “fallout shelter” for the town.
Currently, the facility is known as a “peaking plant”, providing electricity to residents when “prices get high”.
Nominated by Tiffany Evans, we offer CONGRATULATIONS! to this group for keeping our local plant operating & maintained, and available to us within 2 minutes if needed! THANK YOU & KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK!
For more history & information (highly recommended!) you can take a tour of the plant (about an hour) by calling Dave at 795-229-3751 (M-F, 7am-4pm).
