Evelyn Kay (Millard) Shepard

Evelyn Kay (Millard) Shepard, 76, of Williamsburg, KS passed away Saturday, October 15, 2022 at Richmond Healthcare and Rehab in Richmond, KS.

She was born February 21, 1946 in Baltimore, MD. She was raised by her parents Woodrow and Vada Millard in Beltsville, MD. She was later reunited with her birth mother, Elizabeth Carper. In 1964, Evelyn graduated from High Point High School in Beltsville. MD. She later attended Neosho County Community College in Ottawa, KS.

Evelyn worked for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Company and would teach Ballroom Dancing in the evenings at Arthur Murray Dance Studio in Baltimore, MD. In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s she was the Williamsburg, KS writer and correspondent for the Ottawa Times Newspaper.

On February 11, 1967, Evelyn was united in marriage to Gayl WinePark Shepard at the base chapel in Ft. Myer, VA. They shared over fifty-five years of marriage before the death of her husband, Gayl on August 19, 2022.

Evelyn was a homemaker. She was a caterer who was known for her pies and cakes for weddings. She was a baking supplier for the restaurant at Indian Lanes Bowling Center. She also was a full time Grandma, caring for and watching her grandsons while their parents worked.

She was a member of the Kansas Porkettes, a group of women who created pork recipes while traveling to county fairs across the State of Kansas representing the Kansas Pork Producers Association. She was a member of Eastern Star holding positions of Ruth, Esther and Martha.

She also enjoyed hunting, fishing and trap shooting with her husband and family. She was a Brownie and Girl Scout Troop Leader during the mid-1970’s at Homewood, KS.

Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Gayl; her parents, Woodrow and Vada Millard; her mother, Elizabeth Carper; and a sister-in-law, Pamela Shepard.

Surviving family includes two daughters, Audra Seyler and her husband, Larry of Princeton, KS and Victoria Wine and her husband, Bradford of Fontana, KS; two brothers, Alfred Millard and his wife, Dianne of Beltsville, MD and Rodney Sterry and his wife, Patty of Brooklyn, MD; three sisters, Susan Brewer and her husband, Dan of Olney, MD, Laura DuRant and her husband, Frank of Myrtle Beach, SC and Jo Ann Runk and her husband, Denver of Glen Burnie, MD; two brothers in law, Mike Shepard of Columbus, KS and Jack Shepard and his wife, Terry of Ottawa, KS; four grandsons, Adam Seyler and his wife, Dallas of Baldwin City, KS, Alex Seyler of Princeton, KS, Destry Kerr of San Diego, CA and Weston Kerr of Fontana, KS; one great grandson, Elliot Seyler of Baldwin City, KS; and many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and great nephews.

To celebrate Evelyn’s life, a memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, October 22, 2022 at the Lamb-Roberts-Price Funeral Home, 325 S. Hickory, Ottawa, KS 66067. Inurnment will follow at the Princeton Cemetery, Princeton, KS. The family will receive friends at 1 p.m. before the service hour.
