Florence Lenora Lewis

Quenemo – Florence Lenora Lewis, 94, passed away on Tuesday, May 31, 2022 at the Midland Hospice House in Topeka, Kansas. She was born on April 17, 1928 on the family farm near Westphalia, Kansas, the daughter of Noah and Florence (Abbott) Borror.

Florence grew up in rural Anderson County and graduated from Westphalia High School in 1946. She had lived most of her life in Quenemo and had been in Ottawa for the last few years.

Florence worked as a Seamstress for the H.D. Lee Company in Ottawa for 20 years, she had then been a bus driver for the Marais des Cygnes Valley schools and had worked with ECKAN Head Start. She was a member of the Quenemo United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women and delivered for Meals On Wheels.

On May 1, 1949, Florence married Duane Shaw, they later divorced. On May 28, 1966, Florence married Earl Dean Lewis in Ottawa.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband, Earl on February 18, 2008; by two of her sons, Darren Lewis on December 19, 1982 and Sanford “Sandy” Shaw on May 7, 2022; by her parents, Noah and Florence and by her two brothers, Martin and Calvin Borror.

Florence is survived by her two sons, Earl (Shari) Lewis, Jr. of Topeka and Leslie (Rita) Lewis of Garnett; four grandchildren and five greatgrandchildren.

A memorial service for Florence will be held at 7:00pm on Friday, June 10 at the Feltner Funeral Chapel in Lyndon. The family will receive friends from 5:30 to service time on Friday. Private family inurnment will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery at Quenemo at a later date. The family requests no flowers or plants and that memorial contributions for Florence may be made to the Quenemo United Methodist Church, sent in care of Feltner Funeral Home, 818 Topeka Avenue, Lyndon, KS. 66451.
