Louis Elkin Short, son of Lewis J. and Opal Short, died peacefully March 7, 2022 at home. Born in Lexington, Missouri, he graduated from high school in 1956. He served our country in the U.S. Air Force and ended his military career in Vietnam.
He met and married Gayle Croker, Pittsburg Kansas, and enjoyed 53 years of marriage. They made their home in Independence, Missouri, then in Lawrence, Kansas, and finally in Ottawa, Kansas in 1973.
Lou worked for Southland Corporation serving as deli manager and as a district manager for the 7-11 stores in Kansas City, Lawrence, and in Topeka. Lou then moved his family to Ottawa Kansas to work as an electronic technician for King Radio eventually retiring in 2003 from Honeywell, Olathe, Kansas. Throughout his life Lou enjoyed bowling, men’s slow pitch softball, photography, doing taxes for people, traveling and being a bookworm. Most of all he enjoyed being around his family and playing with the grandkids.
Survivors include his wife of their home, daughter Tracy Shivley (Tony) of Gladstone, MO, 8 grandchildren, Samuel, Olivia Lowry (Travis), Elizabeth, Joseph, Gabrielle, Ben, Emma and Ella , and 3 great-grandchildren Kaelyn, Layla, and Summer.
Lou asked that there not be a funeral, but we will gather for a graveside service at a later date. Memorials may be made to Wounded Warriors Project but he would especially have liked donations to the Red Cross Blood drives now and in the future. Lou will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
