Members of the Franklin County Democratic Party conducted a nominating convention on Dec. 21 to elect an appointee to replace Sue McCay, who is resigning as Franklin County Register of Deeds as of February 1. After the ballots were counted, Vicki Hughes, the current deputy register of deeds, was elected over challenger, Jennifer McCay Trussell, by an 11-4 vote.
